What is a "Fat Quarter"
Fabric for quilting is usually sold from 100% cotton fabric bolts that are 112cm (40") wide. A Fat Quarter is half a metre cut from the bolt, then cut in half again so that the fat quarter of fabric has a width of 55cm (22"), and a length of 50cm (20").
What is a "Long Quarter"
A Long Quarter is an area of fabric which has a width of 112cm (44"), this being the full width of the fabric bolt and a length of 25cm (10").
If you require fabric to be cut a specific way, please include a note in the "Message to Merchant" box at the checkout. If not specified otherwise fabric will be cut in one continuous piece.
The following diagram will, hopefully, clarify how a Fat Quarter and a Long Quarter are cut from the bolt of fabric.
